IFRA - International Fragrance Association

IFRA

In 1973, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) was founded in Geneva in order to represent the common interests of the fragrance industry. Their main task was the promotion of safe enjoyment of scents.

The IFRA team works together with the Research Institute For Fragrance Materials (RIFM), the scientific center of the industry, to set the standard use of scents. They ensure these standards are put into practice according to scientific recommendations and that member companies meintain this standard. Self-regulation enables a quick assumption of the IFRA standards with fragrance manufacturers worldwide and the industry as a whole.

All scientific results from RIFM are evaluated by an independent expert group – an international group of dermatologists, pathologists, toxicologists and environmental scientists without any connection to fragrance industry. The complete concept of IFRA applies to the production and handling of all fragrance materials, for all sorts of applications and contains a complete set of IFRA rules.

As a permanent member of the “Deutscher Riechtoffverband (DVRH)”*, SWIF enters a voluntary commitment to act in accordance with IFRA regulations.

*The DVRH respects the guidelines and regulations of IFRA. The self-regulation is valid worldwide for all members of the IFRA association. This guarantees larger security and trust for the customer. The technical and scientific guidelines of these associations are compulsive for us.
